How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

The PM Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme offered by the Government of India provides financial assistance to pregnant and lactating mothers from economically weaker sections to compensate for wage loss during childbirth and encourage proper maternal health care. This is one of the govt schemes for pregnant women in India who belong to economically weaker sections.

What are the features and benefits of PM Matru Vandana Yojana?

1.  Financial Assistance: Beneficiary will receive a total of ₹5,000 for their first child in two installments. 

  • 1st Installment of ₹3,000: After pregnancy registration and the first ante-natal check-up (also known as prenatal care, is a series of medical appointments during pregnancy that monitor the health of the mother and baby.). 
  • 2nd Installment of ₹2,000: After childbirth registration and completion of the baby’s first round of vaccinations.

Note: The benefit is available to a woman for her first two living children, with the condition that the second child must be a girl.

2. Financial Assistance for the Second Child (If a Girl): A one-time installment of ₹6,000 is provided to encourage the birth of a girl child.

3. Promotes Maternal Health: Helps pregnant women take good care of their health and nutrition.

4. Compensates Wage Loss: The financial assistance supports women who need to take time off work for a healthy pregnancy.

Who is Eligible under PMMVY scheme?

  • Applicant must be a pregnant or lactating mother.
  • Applicant must be at least 19 years old.
  • Applicant must be working & their wage should stop due to pregnancy
  • Must apply within 270 days from childbirth.

What are the criteria for identifying socially and economically disadvantaged women?

Following are the women who are…

  • From Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
  • With partial (40%) or full disabilities (Divyang Jan)
  • Holding Below Poverty Line (BPL) Ration Cards
  • Beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) (Ayushman Bharat)
  • With an e-Shram card
  • Farmers under Kisan Samman Nidhi
  • With Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Job Cards
  • With a family income of less than ₹8 Lakh per annum
  • Who are Pregnant and lactating Anganwadi workers (AWWs)/ Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs)
  • Holding a Ration Card under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013
  • Any other category prescribed by the Central Government

What are the Documents Required for the PMMVY scheme?

  • Aadhar Card
  • Bank/Post Office Account Passbook (for Direct Benefit Transfer)
  • Childbirth certificate
  • Eligibility proof
  • MCP Card (Mother and Child Protection Card)

How to Apply for the PMMVY scheme?

PMMVY scheme applications can be submitted online or offline based on the applicant’s convenience.

Online Application Process:

  1. Visit the Official PMMVY Portal and login.
  2. Register & Fill in Details – Enter pregnancy registration details, ID proof, bank details, and mobile number.
  3. Upload Required Documents – Attach Aadhaar, bank details, and
    MCP Card 
  4. Submit the Application – Review all details and submit.

Offline Application Process:

  1. Register at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC).
  2. Submit completed Form 1-A along with relevant documents and signed undertaking/consent. And provide Aadhaar details with written consent.
  3. Submit mobile numbers of self, husband, or family member and provide bank/post office account details.
  4. Obtain the prescribed form(s) from the AWC or download it from the Ministry of Women and Child Development website 
  5. Submit the completed form at the AWC.

How does the online application process differ from the offline application process for PMMVY?

In the online application process, you can apply sitting at home, while for the offline application process, you will have to visit the Anganwadi Centre to collect the form and submit the form along with relevant documents.

Are homemakers and self-employed women eligible for this scheme?

Any woman who falls under the eligibility criteria of this scheme can apply. However, homemakers are not eligible as to be eligible under this scheme you need to be a wage earner.
