Nisha: I’ve heard the name, but I don’t really know what it is. What’s it about?

Meena: It’s a scheme just for girls — they give financial help so we can stay focused on our future and avoid early marriage.

The Kanyashree Prakalpa is a key initiative by the Government of West Bengal. It aims to support adolescent girls from low-income families. The scheme has two main goals:  

Encourage education by providing financial help to girls so they can continue their studies and prevent early marriage by delaying marriages until the legal age of 18.  

By offering financial support, the scheme promotes the well-being and independence of young girls in the state.

Key Features & Benefits of Kanyashree Prakalpa  

1. Annual Scholarship – ₹750 per year 

For girls studying in Classes 8 to 12.  

– Must be enrolled in a government-aided or recognized school.  

The scholarship is renewable each year as long as the girl continues her studies and maintains her attendance and performance.  

2. One-Time Grant – ₹25,000  

– For girls who have turned 18 years old.  

– Must be unmarried.  

– The grant supports higher education or vocational training.  

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the scheme, the girl must:  

– Be a resident of West Bengal  

– Be aged between 13 and 18 (for scholarship)  

– Be unmarried  

– Have a family income of less than ₹1.20 lakh per year  

Documents Required  

When applying, make sure you have these documents:  

– Birth Certificate: To confirm age.  

– Declaration of Marital Status: Self-declaration or from a parent/guardian if under 18.  

– Proof of Enrollment: Certificate from the educational institution.  

– Income Certificate: Unless you are exempt.  

– Bank Account Details: Copy of the first page of the passbook.  

– Disability Certificate: If applicable.  

– Passport-size Photographs: Recent colored photos.

How to apply for Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme?

1. Get the Application Form

  • Download it from the official Kanyashree website or collect it from the Block 
  • Development Office or the nearest school or college.

2. Fill the Form Carefully

  • Provide your personal information, family income, and education details.
  • Attach Required Documents

3. Include proof of age, an income certificate, an education certificate, and other necessary documents.

  • Submit the Application
  • Submit it to the Block Office or your school or college authority.

4. Wait for Verification and Approval

  • Authorities will check the details. If you qualify, you will receive the benefits.
